This custom single family residence addresses the constraints of developing on deep and narrow canyon lots located in the hills of Los Angeles.  Each design move is directly related to efficient construction processes due to extreme site conditions. Volumetric hierarchy, building scale and sensitive material selection are prioritized in relation to site.

The residence is situated across a natural drainage watercourse and is connected to the canyon street via bridges for both the garage and main entrance. This entrance leads to a central stair, the main organizing element of the project, and acts as the point of rotation for each of the four split-levels of the house.

The spaces are well proportioned and use a limited number of natural materials that are continuous from interior to exterior. This creates a spatial character that is intimate yet expansive and works in concord with the two rear yards.
